Frequently asked questions

Is a white screen safe for my eyes?

Yes, at a comfortable brightness. A full-brightness white screen viewed up close for a long time can cause eye strain, the same as any bright display. Lower the brightness slider or take breaks if you're using it for an extended session.

Does this drain my battery or affect my OLED screen?

A full white screen uses more power than a dark background because it lights every sub-pixel at once, especially on OLED and AMOLED displays. If you're worried about OLED wear from extended static use, turn on OLED Protection in Settings, which gently varies brightness every 30 seconds.

Will this work on my phone or tablet?

Yes, it works in any modern mobile browser. On iPhone, true fullscreen mode is limited by iOS itself rather than by this tool. See the next question for the workaround.

Can I download this as an image?

Yes. Pick a color, then use the Download option in Settings to save a PNG at your chosen resolution.

Why won't fullscreen work properly on my iPhone?

Apple restricts true fullscreen mode for regular web pages on iPhone, and that restriction applies to every browser on iOS, not just Safari, since Apple requires all iOS browsers to use its WebKit engine. On iPhone, this tool switches to a full-page view automatically instead. For the closest thing to true fullscreen, swipe down from the address bar and choose "Hide Toolbar."

White Screen Online renders true, unfiltered white through your browser rather than a bright photo, since an image would carry compression artifacts a real test shouldn't have.
